I started cooking because I love to eat. I started gardening because I love to cook.
I'm a thirty-something gemini food-snob living in Charleston, West Virginia. I share my home with my hilarious husband and a cantankerous cat, Alley. I love to travel, watch just about any sports event, and I'm happiest when I am digging in my tiny garden or cooking up something delicious in my seriously deficient kitchen.
I like expensive beer and cheap wine.
If I were stranded on a desert island with only four foods, they would definitely be smoked salmon, guacamole, really good stilton and raw oysters on the half shell.
I'm always game for trying my hand at ethnic recipes.
I cook from scratch because I enjoy the process.
I believe just about anything can be improved with bacon grease.
Reading Barbara Kingsolver's Animal Vegetable Miracle was a watershed moment for me, and over the next year or so, I read everything I could find about eating local, food policy, and nutrition. Now, I try to eat as "SOLE" as possible--sustainable, organic, local and ethical. It's not always easy or practical, and somedays I could simply try a little harder. Although it takes a little extra effort to do so, the quality and taste of the food simply speak for themselves. I find it to be completely worth it, and I haven't turned back yet. My goal with this blog has always been to share delicious recipes, tips and encouragement with anyone else who's intersted in doing the same.
